FANUC R2000ib robot FANUC R2000

FANUC R-2000iA/165F vs FANUC R-2000iB/165F

The FANUC R-2000iA/165F and the R-2000iB/165F are two incredibly popular FANUC robot models. The FANUC R-2000iA/165F is the original base model of the world-renowned R-2000i robots. Due to the success of the R-2000iA/165F and its variants, FANUC updated and improved upon it when they released the R-2000iB/165F.

The R-2000iA/165F and the R-2000iB/165F are quite similar to one another since they are the first and second generation for the base model for the R-2000i series. Both models are configured as six axis robots for a flexible and full range of motion. They each feature a payload capacity of 165 kg and a reach of 2,655 mm. Both robots have a repeatability of 0.2 mm making their operation extremely precise.

The FANUC R-2000iA/165F and R-2000iB/165F are unique for both being considered heavy payload robots since they have a slim robotic arm and a more compact design when compared to other large robots. This makes them standout form others in their class as they can automate heavy lifting applications or large work envelope applications while still managing to save on floorspace. For the first time manufacturers with limited space could automate high payload applications. In addition, the footprint of both articulated robots allows them to be easily integrated in a workcell or to be part of a multi-robot operation as their slender arm prevents interference with peripherals.

Both robots are capable of automating a variety of applications and are considered to be two of the biggest workhorses in the robotics field. Both can automate material handling, spot welding, machine tending, and cutting applications. The FANUC R-2000iB/165F can also be deployed for automating foundry, injection molding, and assembly processes.

As mentioned above, both robots are the base models for their specific R-2000i series. The R-2000iA/165F has seven other variations ranging from extended reach robots to heavier payload to rack mounted options. For those looking for similar capabilities to the R-2000iA/165F but with a higher payload, the R-2000ia/210F or the M-900ia/350 are both good options to consider. Those with a wider work envelope could automate with the FANUC R-2000ia/125L.

The FANUC R-2000iB/165F has thirteen variations based from it. There are more variations for extended reach options amongst the R-2000iB series as well as variants with higher payloads. The R-2000ib/100P is the pedestal mounted variant with a lighter payload but longer reach than the R-2000iB/165F. There is also the R-2000ib/210WE which is ideal for harsh work environments as it comes standard with an IP67 rating.

When it comes to differences between the R-2000iA/165F and R-2000iB/165F there are not many as these robots are pretty much interchangeable with one another. One of the main differences is the controller type paired with each model. Since the R-2000iA/165F is older, it is paired with the FANUC RJ3iB controller. The R-2000iB/165F is compatible with the more recent R-30iA, R-J3iC, and R-30iB FANUC controllers. Another notable difference between these two factory robots is their operation speed. Both models are ideal for decreasing cycle times with their fast operation. However, the R-2000iB/165F features vibration control which allows it to operate faster than its predecessor with quicker accelerations and decelerations.
