Reconditioned Robots - Robots Done Right

Reconditioned robots are used industrial robots that have been refurbished. The reconditioning process may involve simply repairing a used industrial robot that may have some broken parts or rebuilding a second-hand robot that is missing several components with used robotic parts. Reconditioned robots will then undergo a thorough cleaning process removing any dirt, grim, or grease from its exterior. Used FANUC robots that undergo reconditioning come out in as good as new condition and ready to be resold on the second-hand market.

Reconditioned robots have seen tremendous growth on the used robot market over recent years. The push for robotic automation has caused many manufacturers to transition away from manual labor and fixed machinery to industrial robots. Reconditioned robots provide those that are new to robotic automation a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a brand-new robot. Manufacturers of all sizes can automate their factories while sticking to their budget with used robots.

Most reconditioned robots are models that are five or more years old. For instance, the FANUC Arcmate 100ic can be found for sale on the used robot market. Even though reconditioned robots may be older, they still provide many of the same benefits of robotic automation as new ones. There are considerable advantages to automating with a reconditioned robot, these include:

  • • Affordability - The affordability of purchasing a reconditioned robot is one of the biggest benefits of buying second-hand. Reconditioned robots typically cost 40% to 60% less than the price of a new industrial robot. Buying a reconditioned Yaskawa Motoman MA1400 with DX100 is much more affordable than its new model equivalent the MA1440 with YRC1000 controller. The savings from buying a used robot will translate into a much quicker ROI and faster profit growth.

  • • Reliability - When purchasing a used robot or used robotic system you can be assured you are getting a reliable automation solution. Industrial robots have incredibly long lifespans with many being able to operate over 100,000 hours. Many FANUC R2000ib robots produced over 10 years ago are still operating in factories today. Reconditioned robots are repaired to be like new and fully functioning. Just because you are purchasing an older robot does not mean you will be sacrificing quality.

  • • Ease of Integration - If you are looking to upgrade your existing robot or add to your current industrial robot setup, it may make the most sense to purchase a reconditioned robot. Buying a reconditioned robot will allow you to purchase the same model, making integration with existing equipment or other articulated robots easier. You will be able to use the same EOAT, power supply, and controller as new robots may not be compatible with pre-existing robotic equipment. It also makes the transition smoother for operators as they will already be familiar with the six axis robot and will not have to learn programming for a new robotic system. In fact, many used fanuc robots for sale that were performing robotic MIG welding still have the welding power supply integrated into them. Most FANUC Arcmate 120ic robots will include either a Lincoln Powerwave i400 or R350.
