FANUC R-2000iA Series vs FANUC R-2000iC Series

The FANUC R-2000iA series and the FANUC R-2000iC series are both amongst some of FANUC ‘s most popular industrial robot lines. Both series fall under the highly successful R-2000i robot family. The FANUC R-2000iA articulated robots were a huge success since at the time of their release they were one of the few heavy payload industrial robots to feature a slim profile. Since the release of the R-2000iA robots, FANUC has continued to build upon their success, releasing three additional generations to date. The R-2000iC robot manipulators are the third generation in the FANUC R-2000i robot family. The following is a comparison of some of the key features between the FANUC R-2000iA and R-2000iC robots.

Payload

The payload capacities for the FANUC R-2000iA industrial robot arms range from 125 kg to 210 kg. They were some of the first heavy payload robots to feature a more compact footprint. Users could automate higher payload applications without having to sacrifice tons of floorspace.

The payload capacities for the FANUC R-2000iC robots feature a wider range than the R-2000iA robots. Payloads start at 100 kg and go up to 270 kg with the FANUC R-2000iC series. Greater variability in robotic payload capacities was one of the improvements made between the R-2000iA and R-2000iC robots.

Reach

The FANUC R-2000iA six axis robots also feature long reaches which allow them to automate processes requiring larger work envelopes or bigger workpieces. Reaches for the R-2000iA robots start at 2,483 mm and go up to 3,095 mm.

Robot reach was another area that has been updated for the FANUC R-2000iC handling robots. Reaches for the R-2000iC series features a greater range, starting at 2,230 mm and maxing out at 3,540 mm.

Footprint

The FANUC R-2000iA robots are designed with a slim footprint along with a slender arm and wrist. These robots were unique at the time of their release due to their high payload capabilities and compact design. Prior to the R-2000iA series, high payload robots meant sacrificing floorspace. The design of the R-2000iA robots changed this and was one of the main reasons for their success.

FANUC recognized the need for more space saving heavy payload robotic manipulators and continued to improve upon the footprint of the following R-2000i robot generations. The FANUC R-2000iC robot footprint and weight have been reduced from previous generations, making them more compact. The R-2000iC robots are ideal for operating in confined spaces or multi-robot configurations.

Robot Models

Both series feature a base robot model with multiple variations. The R-2000ia/165F is the base model for the R-2000iA series. The series also features the shelf-mounted R-2000ia/165R and the extended reach R-2000ia/125L.

The FANUC R-2000iC series features the R-2000ic/165F which is the base model and third generation of the R-2000iA/165F. The series also features the rack mounted R-2000ic/210R and the extended reach R-2000ic/210L along with several other variants. The FANUC R-2000ic/210F is one of the most used robots in the world, mainly for automated spot welding

Robot Controller

The FANUC R-2000iA robots are paired with the R-J3iB controller. While the R-2000iC series robots are compatible with either the R-30iB or R-30iB Plus controllers.
