KUKA Welding Cells

KUKA Welding Cell Overview

KUKA is well known for their innovative robotic technology. Their cutting-edge products have landed them within the big four robot manufacturers in the world. Along with building innovative robots, KUKA has also developed two lines of pre-engineered welding cells with their flexibleCUBE arc and flexibleCELL arc systems. These welding systems feature standardized modular designs that can be further customized towards the specific requirements of the customer. As their names imply, these weld cells offer greater flexibility and versatility while still providing the advantages of traditional weld cells. These KUKA weld systems are designed to be configured with KUKA robots, such as the KR 30-3 and the KR 16. KUKA offers pre-engineered work cells that can be used for a variety of welding applications including: laser welding, plasma welding, GMAW, and GTAW.

flexibleCUBE arc Systems

KUKA’s flexibleCUBE arc systems are designed specifically for arc welding applications and are considered an all-rounder when it comes to welding systems. These weld cells feature a modular and compact design, making these cells a perfect fit for those with limited floorspace. These weld cells are able to simplify complex welding applications like plasma welding with their programmability and stable operation. They also feature minimum maintenance which helps keep productivity high and down time low.

Each flexibleCUBE system is integrated with an industrial robot, positioner, and welding equipment. KUKA offers four variants within this line with each one providing different variations based upon positioner, handling capacity, and safety features. One of the models, the flexibleCUBE arc C-DP 05, allows for welding of components up to 100 kg. The rotary positioner allows for simultaneous loading and unloading of parts during the welding operation. Another model, the flexibleCUBE arc C-DK 05, is capable of handling the welding of heavier components of up to 400 kg. It also features an automatic table rotation and can access hard to reach weld seams. As part of its safety package it features a light barrier for protection during operation.

flexibleCELL arc Systems

KUKA’s other line of weld cells, the flexibleCELL arc systems, are designed for the welding of large and heavy components. These systems also feature a modular design that comes pre-assembled and ready for welding. The standard packages of these systems allow for customized options in order to simplify the welding process. They also provide increased versatility with the ability to make dynamic changes to any manufacturing process. These weld cells can adapt to various production volumes and application requirements. The advantages of KUKA’s flexibleCELL arc systems are numerous, including low space requirements, short delivery time, simple operation, and easy integration.

The flexibleCELL arc line offers seven variants that are based upon different positioner types. The models with in the flexibleCELL line all offer heavy handling capacities with ranges starting at 250 kg and going up to 4,000 kg. For those in industries looking to weld large parts, such as the automotive industry, these weld cells would be able to accommodate those components. Variants also differ in the flexibleCELL arc line based upon the production volume. Some variants are designed for high volume productions, while others are better suited for small to medium volume productions. Some of the flexibleCELL arc systems can also accommodate for workpieces needing repositioning during the welding operation.
